　デビュー・シングル。5000枚限定のうち1000枚はステッカー付きのようです。ジャケットはJOY DIVISIONでおなじみのピーター・サヴィルが担当し、レニー・ブルースの死体写真が使われています。まだ彼らのサウンドを決定づけたドラム担当 Donald Johnson 不在の頃の作品で、イアン・カーティスを連想させる低いトーンのサイモン・トッピングのヴォーカルと淡々と刻まれるギター・カッティングが印象的な『All Night Party』更に暗い陰影なナンバー『Thin Boy』の２曲。

　彼らの代表曲のひとつである『Shack Up』はグループ唯一のカバー・ヴァージョンで、アメリカのソウルグループ "BANBARRA" の75年の作品とのこと。
黒人ドラマー、ドナルド・ジョンソンの叩き出すファンキーなドラミングが最高に気持ちいい名曲です。
　ハンマーのようなドラムと叩きつけるような投げやりなベースが印象的な曲『And Then Again』は、Live音源を収録。

　US用に編集された12"のようです。これも初期の傑作のひとつ。カセットでリリースされていたらしい『Do The Do』、それに『The Foxx』『Shack Up』はいうまでもなく彼らの中でも１、２を競う名曲。『The Fox』の曲の出だし部分のなんとかっこいいことでしょうか。もちろん『Son And Heir』も甲乙付けがたいほどのスリリングな名曲です。このナンバーだけは未だにこのシングルか『Double 12"』でしか聴けないかもしれません。

　彼らの一番かっこいい頃の代表曲がまとめて入っているのが嬉しい2枚組12インチ、イタリアとオーストラリア限定で出された12インチの45回転２枚組アナログ。内容はUSでリリースされた『Do the Du 』と、その直前リリースされた『Flight』をパッケージしたもの。後にフランスでもリリースされた。インナースリーブもファクトリーらしい凝ったデザインになっている。

　A面『Waterline』は、ベースがスラップ奏法を多様しだした曲で、極端にファンクなサウンドになっていて驚きましたが、更にラテン・パーカッションへの傾倒も同じく強くなっています。最後は実験的なノイズで終わります。B面『Funaezekea』はピアノなども入っているインスト曲で、フリージャズのようでもあります。この曲ではダブの録音手法も取り入れてあるのも興味深い曲で、いまだCD化されていない曲のひとつです。

　アルバム収録のと比べると別物のようにカッコイイ仕上がりです。この12インチは是非とも聴いて欲しい1枚のうちのひとつ。とにかくものすごいしびれる音出しています。傑作12インチ。
　で、実物見てた時は気づかなかったのですが、裏は45という数字なんですね。
